If your car makes a squealing noise when you brake, you may think that you have faulty brakes. Or is it really so?
Drum brakes are a brake system with brake drums (rotor) which rotate with the wheels. On average, rear drum brakes last pretty long, sometimes up to 240,000 km.
Recently, Ah Chan’s Suzuki Swift has been experiencing the squealing sound a lot and she promptly sent her car to one of Drive Ride Buddy’s trusted workshop, CarCreed Pte Ltd.
Upon arriving, CarCreed’s highly trained professional undertake a test drive and inform us of a need to do servicing. As quoted, the likely issue could be due to the accumulation of dust and rust inside the drum shoe.
So we asked further what are the other possibilities:
- Moisture like heavy rain can result in a thin layer of rust that will disappear after using the brake pedal a few times
- Hauling heavy loads causes the brakes to be under more pressure, which results in heat, swelling parts and possibly squeal
The rear wheels are removed, followed by the brake drum. From there, washing and cleaning of the drum shoe begin. After which, lubricating the shoe is essential.
Once done, the drum and wheels are put back and testing is done to ensure the issue are resolved. All in all, less than 2o mins, all is completed.
The folks at CarCreed believed in ensuring every customer’s car received the utmost care and services required. A workshop that believes cars are not just a mode of transport but deserve the best when sent in.
CarCreed is located at 13 Kaki Bukit Road 4, #03-22/23, Bartley Biz Centre Singapore (417807). The workshop is open on Mondays to Fridays from 10:00am to 7:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
