The authorities had announced on Tuesday (May 19) that Singapore will exit the circuit breaker as planned on Jun 1, with measures to be progressively lifted in three phases from Jun 2.

So let us take a look at how does Phase One of Circuit Breaker Exit affects the automotive industry in Singapore?

Car maintenance and repair services to be resume

The workshops will be able to provide car repair services such as bodywork repair, installation of parts, and mechanical repair, etc. The car owners will also be able to send their cars for their regular servicing.

As for car grooming and car wash services will still remain closed.

Car showrooms to remain closed

Base on the guidelines, only business activities that do not pose a high risk of transmission will be allowed to be open.

This means that the car showrooms will remain closed during Phase One as retail sales of motor vehicles are not included in the official list of permitted services by the SSIC (Singapore Standard Industrialisation Codes).

COE bidding exercise likely to be further suspended

There is no news yet on whether the COE bidding exercise will be resume during Phase One. It is likely that the COE bidding will remain suspended with the car showrooms remain closed
