The Singapore government had announced the Circuit Breaker for the CoVid-19 on last Friday (3rd April 2020, it had mentioned that only essential services can remain in operation from 7th April 2020 to 4th May 2020.
Today is the first day of the Circuit Breaker, what are the essential services that are available to the automotive users in Singapore.
First of all, the good news is that the ERP gantries are not going to be operational during the circuit breaker period.
Are Workshops Open During Circuit Breaker?
Under the list of essential services, it stated that vehicle recovery and repair services are for emergency vehicle services only.
This statement might confuse users to think that workshops are close during this period of time. We came across a Facebook post by the Singapore Motor Workshop Association (SMWA), it states that the motor repair workshops can still continue to operate and provide emergency vehicle services such as vehicle repair and recovery.
However, vehicle aesthetics services such as car grooming, regular servicing, etc are considered as non-essential services and had to remain close during this period.
The eligible vehicle workshops can apply for an exemption at the GoBusiness COVID site by 13th April 2020 if they intend to continue their operations.
The Singapore Motor Workshop Association strongly advised the members to exercise more care during this period. They encourage them to practice good personal hygiene, personnel to wear a mask, operating at minimum capacity and also having appointment arrangements only.
LTA Related Services
During this period of time, LTA had also announced that the vehicle services will remain accessible to the public via the OneMotoring website. However, the counter services at LTA’s Customer Service Centre and e-Lobbies at Sin Ming Drive will cease operations from 7 April to 4 May 2020.
They will also be making the following adjustments during this period.
Periodic vehicle inspection for private cars
This will be deferred. To facilitate continued usage, LTA will allow the road tax for such private cars to be renewed for six months if they have valid insurance coverage. Goods vehicles, buses, taxis, Private Hire Cars (PHCs), and motorcycles will still be required to go for periodic inspections as scheduled; Authorised Inspection Centres will remain open to facilitate this.
Seal inspection for Off-Peak Cars
This will be waived during this period.
Disposal of de-registered vehicles
Owners who de-register their vehicles, or whose one-month deadline for disposing of their de-registered vehicles falls within this period will be given an additional two months to dispose of their vehicles as all LTA-authorised scrapyards and Export Processing Zones, and other vehicle exporters will not be in operation.
Registration of replacement vehicle under the Early Turnover Scheme (ETS)
Owners of commercial vehicles due to be de-registered during this period will be given an additional two months to register their replacement vehicle under ETS.
For more information, refer to LTA website.
Drive Ride Buddy hope everyone stays safe during this period and remains indoors unless you really need to visit a workshop for your car repairs urgently.
